When the Heart is Broken and the Life Looks Bleak

When the Swords of Iron War began, dozens of families from southern and northern Israel had to pack their belongings and flee from theirhomes to the unknown. They left their entire lives behind them: home, stability, employment, and schools.

Many families experienced the nightmare personally. Scenes of horror and fear enveloped them and their children. The fragile state of their lives and the extreme change had a huge impact on their mental condition.

The new situation posed many challenging situations and moments that had to be faced. They were all consumed by the wish that it would all end – or at least that they would find help.

This temporary situation became permanent: the war routine became
part of their lives and the temporary accommodations became permanent, with no visible end on the horizon.

Every day, these families try to keep their head above water, maintain their sanity and family unit as much as possible, and create some kind of regular life in the continual chaos.

Rising from the Ruins

This is where the Haifa Chabad House came in, led by emissary Rabbi Yehuda Ginzburg, who understood the gravity of the moment before the government agencies stepped in. He realized what was needed – giving help to maintain spiritual resilience at a time of upheaval. The objective was to create a comprehensive and enabling treatment space, guided by a professional team that would be at the side of the families and children and provide them with a comforting and supporting hand, with sensitivity and dedication, and help them to get through the upheaval in a healthier way.

An experienced team managed and supervised by Dr. Marina Wolowitz providesprofessional treatment by psychologists, social workers, and licensed therapists with extensive experience in treatment of trauma. All of our staff are committed to providing professional, sympathetic, and personalized treatment to every patient. Therapists at the center have received comprehensive training in diverse therapeutic techniques, with a focus on treatment of war event victims.

A strenuous effort has been made to win the trust of the parents and children. Following many hours of attention involving sincere and loving care, the response to the initiative began to yield results among the families. Many of them were able to stand on their own two feet and resume normal life, wherever possible.

The Heart Healers

In time, given the growing needs, this spontaneous and instantaneous initiative found a permanent home. In recent months, a special building has been constructed and converted into the Resilience Center and the special initiative, thanks to constant urging and development by the Haifa Chabad House and other friends.

In the near future, every person coming into the Center will enjoy a wide variety of advanced professional therapy, ranging from individual emotional therapy offering face-to-face meetings with a therapeutic specialist, adapted to the special needs of every patient, to family therapy provided by a therapist trained in family intervention and addressing of all of its needs, including instruction for the parents. Group therapy is also provided, including meetings that facilitate mutual sharing and support between group members for the purpose of dealing actively with various life situations, and workshops and lectures that constitute educational and enriching activity designed to reinforce the tools for handling trauma.

Therapy at the center is personally adapted to each patient, taking into account his unique personal experiences and needs. We emphasize the creation of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship that enables the patients to explore their feelings, thoughts, and behavior openly and sincerely. We provide them with effective personalized tools for coping with the situation.

Growth

Pain

t is a year since the war began, with no end in sight. The many wounds have not yet healed, and the necessary physical, and especially mental, recovery from them is immeasurable. In Israel today there are thousands of people who are struggling every moment in body andmind. Unfortunately, as time passes, this is becoming true of more and more people.

mind. Unfortunately, as time passes, this is becoming true of more and
more people.

The need for immediate therapy is critical. Time does not always cure, and certainly not when there are so many war fronts. There have been heavy losses among those rescued from Nova and similar places – cases in which people were left to their fate, had to deal alone with the difficult situation, and succumbed.

The blessed life-saving activity of the Resilience Center is carried out with confidence and belief in our strength as a Jewish nation to overcome any obstacle and continue forward with uplifted heads. Providing timely therapy and assistance supports emotional resilience and makes it possible to find the silver lining concealed deep within the heartbreak.

Join us and take part in consolidating and developing the Resilience Center – the place that gives hope to the Jewish heart and ensures a winning future!

Introducing Radiant Haifa

For many years, Haifa Chabad House, run by Rabbi Yehuda Ginzburg, has been performing the mission assigned to it by the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The Jewish radiance in secular-dominated Haifa is growing from year to year, with many emissaries all over the city providing a Jewish response to every request. During the week, on Shabbat, and on holidays, Haifa Chabad House serves as an anchor for all Haifa residents, guiding the team of emissaries and their activities in the city.
A Welcoming Community
The Heichal Aharon Synagogue in the French Carmel neighborhood hosts prayers in a hospitable and supportive family atmosphere. A unique community has formed around this synagogue – the Heichal Segel Community. Special activities and events according to the Hasidic calendar and during the holiday months are held for the community members. Torah lessons are held during the week for men and women. The community life has become an important anchor in the members’ lives.
Future Generation
We place great emphasis on the future generation of Haifa. Outstanding kindergartens spread all over the city are lovingly implanting values in young children. The Shalhevet Chabad school, known for its unique method of fostering intelligence, offers personalized learning that hones and sparks the students’ abilities, based on values of faith and love of G-d. The school’s reputation has spread in the city, and many families are choosing to join in order to provide their children with a quality Jewish education.
Giving to the Community

A wonderful array of activities for aiding economically disadvantaged families provides them with loving support throughout the entire year. Dozens of families are receiving aid packages with basic commodities and sweets for the holidays, such as Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, and Pesach, enabling them to celebrate the holiday joyfully. Extensive aid is also provided in case additional help is needed.

Special aid kits are distributed to senior citizens during the winter, and extensive assistance is provided to lone soldiers in needs of support. At the beginning of the school year, Chabad House grants full support to children from poor families and provides them with the equipment that they need in order to begin the school year successfully. During the year, dozens of hot meals are given out in the educational institutions in order to guarantee that children from poor families receive nutritious lunches, and do not have to study on an empty stomach.

In wartime, and at any time during the year, Haifa Chabad House is always open for any request.
By joining forces, we will spread kindness and good feeling. We will illuminate Haifa and the surrounding area with light that will hasten the coming of the Messiah and the true and complete redemption.
